Chasing Blue Ace Sport Inflatable SUP Review

If you’re looking for sporty and fun the Chasing Blue Ace Sport is a great option.

This board has a 32″ wide center base but it tapers significantly at the nose and tail, which makes the Ace Sport quick to maneuver, easy to glide and just challenging enough to stay fun even as your skills improve.

This is a nice ride that I personally preferred paddling on calm water.  In chop and wake it will challenge you even more and I found it took a little more focus to paddle and stay balanced.  That being said you get used to it quickly and on calm water it feels great.

This board is perfect for those who are looking for a little extra speed while out on the water for fitness and fun.  It glides smoothly yet is portable and easy to take anywhere.

It can hold up to 300 lbs easily so you can load it up for a day of adventure.

CONSTRUCTION

The Chasing Blue boards are made with standard double layer drop-stitch PVC material. The Ace Sport inflates up to 15 PSI and is rigid and strong when fully inflated.  Recommended air pressure is anywhere from 12-15 PSI.

I found the board to be strong enough to handle most situations and had no problem riding around with my small dogs as well.

When deflated the board rolls up easily into a nice compact package and can be stored and transported in the wheeled backpack.

PERFORMANCE

Like the name implies the Ace Sport is very sporty and fun.  Just be aware that this board does feel narrower with the tapered nose, even though the center width is actually 32″.

This board shape can be a bit more challenging if you are a first time paddleboarder as opposed to the more stable all-around shape with a rounded nose.

So for this reason I feel this board would suit someone who either has a little paddling experience already or is willing to be challenged, especially when paddling in choppy water.

However the payoff is that it glides smoothly and moves swiftly through the water, so it is a lot of fun to paddle.

I really enjoyed paddling this board on my local lakes and rivers.  It handles well, is very easy to turn and maneuver and I found that it took less effort to propel forward through the water.

PADDLING WITH DOGS

I took my dogs out with me several times on this board and although we handled it just fine, I would say it’s not the best choice for paddling with dogs, especially if you have a larger dog.

The narrower width at the nose will feel even less stable with a dog moving around and with the pointed nose there isn’t as much room up front for the dog to sit or lay down.

It’s very doable if you are up for it but not as comfortable as taking a dog out on a wider more stable board.

IMPORTANT FEATURES

There are several cool features on this board that will help make your paddling experience even better.

FRONT AND BACK BUNGEES

There are fairly large bungee cargo straps at both the nose and the tail.  Dual bungees are really nice to have as it provides lots of space for securing your gear.

I find that I often use both sets of bungees to store my dry bags, flip flops, water bottle, etc.

You can easily fit a couple good sized dry bags under both sets of bungees.

BUNGEE GRAB HANDLES

On either side of both bungees there are also padded safety grab handles.

These handles are very useful as you can use them to help mount the board from the water or to grab when needed.

PADDED CARRY HANDLE

The center carry handle is nicely padded and that makes it much more comfortable to carry the board any distance.

NOSE AND TAIL GRAB HANDLES

You will also find a padded grab handle at both the nose and tail of the board as well.  These handles can be used for grabbing the board from the water or for carrying with two people.

SMOOTH DECK PAD

The deck pad has lined grooves that feel comfortable and smooth when standing or kneeling.  It has decent grip and there is ample space for maneuvering your feet.

Whether you are just chilling on the water or paddling hard you will feel comfortable on this deck pad.

The rear of the deck pad is diamond groove, which offers a bit more grip so if you are stepping back for pivot turns and maneuvers this extra grip will really help.

DOUBLE SECURED VALVE

Chasing Blue uses a double secured valve with spring control.  This valve releases some air if the board is inflated past 15 PSI keeping the air pressure at just the right level.

Inflating this board is easy with the secured valve.  Push the valve pin up when you inflate the board so that no air escapes and push it down to deflate.

22 STAINLESS STEEL DRINGS

There are lots of D-rings on the Ace Sport.  If you want to attach a kayak seat or a cooler or any other accessories there are plenty of D-rings for doing that.

• 6 D-rings are being used by the two bungee sets.
• There are also 2 D-rings on either side of the nose and tail grab handles.
• Plus there are 3 D-rings along both sides of the traction pad.

WHEELED BACKPACK

The wheeled backpack has one main pocket that zips open on all three sides.  It fits the board and all of the accessories and makes it easy to not only transport the board but to store it as well.

The wheels are awesome as you can pull it like a suitcase.  It’s perfect for traveling and ideal if you don’t want to carry the weight on your back.

However if you do want to carry the pack it has padded shoulder straps and a waist clip for added support.

The bag is easy enough to carry shorter distances getting to the water.

The inside of the bag has insulated materials to help regulate the temperature of the contents so the bag sounds a bit crinkly but it’s a cool feature for sure.

DUAL ACTION HAND PUMP

The hand pump included in the package has a high-pressure and a low-pressure mode to make it easier to inflate the board.

The pump works well and takes me 6-7 minutes to inflate this iSUP with fairly steady pumping.  You can watch the progress on the integrated pressure gauge.

3-PIECE CARBON SHAFT PADDLE

The paddle has a carbon shaft and nylon blade.  It weighs 28 oz and is adjustable from 72″ to 86″.

The blade is a good size for some good power strokes and feels good to use.  This paddle works well for people of all sizes for recreational paddling.

The Chasing Blue paddle breaks down into three pieces and fits nicely in the backpack so it is easy to store and perfect for traveling.

COILED SUP LEASH

The coiled SUP leash is an important safety item that should be worn at all times.

By attaching one end to your ankle and one end to the back D-ring on the board you will keep the board close if you should fall in the water.

REMOVABLE TOURING FIN

The Ace Sport has two attached smaller side fins and one larger removable touring fin.

The touring fin clips easily into the fin box and really helps with tracking.

If you are paddling in very shallow water you can remove the touring fin and simply use the two smaller side fins.

However I found for best performance use all three fins.

ACTION MOUNT SETS

Want to attach an action cam, camera stick or other gear?  There are several action mount sets included in this package.

You can glue these mounts anywhere you like on the board for your convenience.

WATERPROOF PHONE CASE

The phone case is a bonus and perfect for keeping your cell phone safe and dry while out on the water.

The case will protect your phone from splashes and drips.

REPAIR KIT

All inflatable SUP’s come with a repair kit in case you ever need it.  This one includes a couple of PVC patches, glue and a valve wrench.

The valve wrench is easy to use and allows you to tighten the valve on the board if it ever becomes loose.

WARRANTY

IN SUMMARY

In conclusion this is a great board that comes at a really good price.  I’ve really enjoyed paddling it especially on calm water.

If you’re looking for a faster board that you can easily grow into as your skills improve, the Ace Sport is worth considering.
