Sea Eagle Universal QuikRow Kit Review

I have wanted to get into rowing for a while. I figured I would really enjoy it and I even considered joining a rowing club, however I have yet to do that.

So when the opportunity arose to review the Sea Eagle Universal QuikRow Kit I was all over it.

This rowing kit gives me an easy and quick way to turn my inflatable SUP into an efficient rowing machine out on the water.

I was in love the first time I took it out. I can lose myself in the glide as the rest of the world melts away and it provides an awesome workout.

Although this QuikRow Kit can also be used on a kayak, I figured I would enjoy it more on my SUP.

Initial setup was the hardest part but once it’s done you don’t have to do it again.

It secures to my Sea Eagle Needlenose fast and easy and is compatible with both the Sea Eagle Longboard and Neeldenose paddle boards.

It also works great with the Sea Eagle Explorer, FastTrack, PaddleSki or fishing kayaks.

* It is not compatible with the Sea Eagle Razorlite, Sport kayaks or Travel Canoes.

If you have a different SUP it should also be easy to attach as long as your board has side D-rings.

HOW IT WORKS

ONE TIME ASSEMBLY

The rowing kit has a one time set up. Assembly isn’t too hard if you follow the instructions, they are quite well laid out.  It just takes a bit of time so you’ll want to set it up before you get to the water.

Once assembled it does take up a bit of space to store and transport. If you have a smaller vehicle you may need to disassemble certain parts to fit it in.

SECURE TO YOUR KAYAK OR SUP

Securing it to your SUP or kayak is really easy. It comes with self-locking straps that secure around your board or kayak and through the D-rings.

This step only takes a minute and is really simple to do once you get to the water.

SWIVEL SEAT

The seat has great cushioning and has a little back flip that you can sit up against.

I found it really comfortable even when out rowing for a couple of hours.  It also swivels so you have the freedom to turn if you need to.

FOOT REST

The foot rest is optional but if you plan to use the Quik Row with a paddle board you’ll definitely want to get one.

It really helps to brace your feet and get in some good power strokes.  I can’t imagine rowing with my SUP without the footrest to help out.

OAR LOCKS

The oar locks are easy to secure around the oars and hold them nicely in place.

You can tighten and loosen them as you need.

ROWING

Once set up you are ready to hit the water.  It took me a few minutes the first time out to get the feel of it but once I got in the rhythm I was hooked.

My boyfriend also loved it, we both found it to be easy to use and comfortable.

Plus it’s a fantastic workout.  I was using muscles that I don’t always use and loved the exhilarating feel of propelling myself across the water.

WEIGHT

Fully assembled the QuikRow Kit weighs only 20 lbs. Although that isn’t much I found it tricky to carry by myself and I definitely can’t carry it once it is secured to my board.

If you will be going out by yourself I HIGHLY recommend the Sea Eagle EZ Cart so you can wheel it to the water.

This cart works great and then you don’t have to worry about awkwardly trying to get it from your vehicle to the shoreline. 🙂

1. The QuikRow Footrest – This is very much recommended if using the QuikRow Kit on a SUP or with the Sea Eagle PaddleSki.
2. 2. Scotty Rod Holders with Universal Deck Mounts – If you want to fish while you’re out there this Scotty Rod Holders work great.

PERFORMANCE

I love using this rowing kit. I found it comfortable and simple to use. The oars secure easily with the oar lock and pins and you can adjust them to what feels best for you.

I particularly loved using the QuikRow kit with my Sea Eagle Needlenose, which already glides so well.

I was able to really get in some good speed with the rowing kit and cover some decent ground/water.

I really had no complaints with the performance. It took me a couple minutes to get into the rhythm and make sure my strokes are synchronized but once I mastered that it was smooth rowing.

• Comfortable swivel seat
• Affordable way to turn one of the Sea Eagle SUP’s or kayaks into a rowing machine out on the water
• Portable and easy to transport if you have a truck. Otherwise might need to disassemble one piece.

CONS

• Hard to carry on your own – The EZ Cart solves this problem
• Takes a bit of space to store and transport
