NIXY Ventus Universal Electric Pump Review

If you have an inflatable SUP and have spent any time hand pumping you’ll likely LOVE the idea of an electric pump that does all the hard work for you.

Personally I’d rather save my energy for the water so I often use an electric pump to inflate my board – especially if I have multiple boards out with me.

There is a new electric pump for SUP’s on the market this year. The NIXY Ventus Universal Electric Pump sounded great and I was really excited to review it.

DESIGN

NIXY has spent a lot of time researching and testing to design the ultimate electric pump for inflatable paddle boards and they have done a truly great job.

This is a small and lightweight 12V pump that is powerful and well thought out.

The Ventus has some great features including an active cooling technology that keeps the pump from over heating so that you can inflate multiple boards in one go.

In fact NIXY states the Ventus Electric Pump can inflate up to 10 paddle boards without overheating.

I rarely ever have 10 boards out with me at once so I tested it on 5 inflatable SUP’s to see how well it performs.

I spent a bit of time with this pump, taking it out with me on multiple occasions so I could really give it a good test and an honest review.

Although I normally used it only on 2-3 boards at once I did test it on 5 boards a few times to make sure my data was correct.

ANALYSIS

After using it to inflate many paddle boards on several different outings my conclusion is that it basically works exactly as it should.

It inflated all 5 of my boards without issue and no overheating each time.  The hose connects securely to the valve on the board so that I can connect it, set the PSI level, hit power and walk away.

Once the pump reaches the set air pressure level it shuts off automatically.

Noise level isn’t too bad, similar to other electric pumps on the market.  It gets a little noisy once it hits the second stage of inflation, which is typical for most electric SUP pumps as they tend to be powerful little units.

Speed was decent.  I would love it to be slightly faster but all in all no complaints.  On average it took 9 minutes to inflate each of my paddle boards. (Scroll down to see exact speed for each board).

5 BOARD TEST

I decided to test the Ventus pump with 5 of my NIXY paddle boards. I only let the pump rest for a few seconds in between inflating each board to 15 PSI.

You can see in the video that it had no trouble and inflated each board with little effort.

It took awhile to get 5 boards inflated however although it did the job without issue. I would be inclined to buy a second pump if I was taking more than 3 boards out with me in order to save some time.

In total it took just under 45 minutes to inflate all 5 boards.

PRESSURE SETTING

The Ventus pump can inflate up to 20 PSI.  Once you power the pump on you can set the PSI level to your desired air pressure by pressure the plus sign.

Once you’ve set it the first time it will remember your setting so you don’t need to set the level each time unless you want to change it.

Most inflatable paddle boards are ideally inflated to 15 PSI.

AUTO SHUT OFF

Once you have set the PSI level the pump will automatically shut off once it reaches that air pressure so there is no worry about over inflation.

DIGITAL DISPLAY

I love these electric pumps with the digital displays.  It makes it so easy to watch the progress and see what air pressure you are at.

There’s no guessing, the numbers are clearly visible on the display.

12V DC CONNECTOR & 12V BATTERY ALLIGATOR CLIPS

The Ventus uses a 12V DC Connector to power it.  It easily plugs into the 12V connection in your vehicle.

Simply turn on your car, plug in the 12V connection and press power on the pump.  It’s quick and easy.

I also have an AC to DC converter that I purchased on Amazon.com so I can also plug it into the outlet in my home if I am using it at home or anywhere where there is an AC connection.

However if you would prefer there is also 12V battery alligator clips included in the package so you can also power it directly through your car battery as well.

OPTIONAL BATTERY PACK

NIXY also offers an optional battery pack that can be used if you don’t have a 12V connection accessible.

The battery pack is definitely an extra cost but would be totally worth it if you are hiking or camping with your boards and don’t have a vehicle handy.

The battery pack is rechargeable and also has two USB outputs and a powerful flash light on it as well so it is quite useful.

It takes approximately 7 hours to fully charge and is capable of inflating up to 3 paddle boards with a full charge.

It includes an easy to read LCD display, a DC 12V 15A cigarette lighter output and a DC 12V/1000mA charging input.

The dimensions of the battery pack are: 7.90” x 4.43” x 1.69”.  It tucks nicely inside the carry bag for the Ventus Electric Pump.

ACTIVE COOLING TECHNOLOGY

The active cooling system is what allows you to inflate multiple boards in one outing.

Electric SUP pumps are famous for overheating.  This one works by cooling the pump as it is inflating so that it never over heats.

I found the cooling system to work really well.  I let the pump rest for only a few seconds in between inflating each board and it worked great, no overheating.

After inflating all five boards the pump was warm to the touch but not hot and the motor continued running strong with no stutters or pauses.

LIGHT & PORTABLE

The Ventus is fairly small and definitely very portable.  It comes with a really nice padded carry bag, which I was really happy to see.

So it is easy to store away and safely bring along to any destination.

The pump itself weighs only 4 lbs. and is 10″ long x 8″ wide x 5″ thick.

It has a nice soft rubber low profile carry handle on top of the pump that makes it really comfortable and easy to carry.

POWER CORD LENGTH

The power cord is 10 feet long so it offers plenty of room to inflate multiple boards without having to move anything.

A really well thought out feature is the flush cord management holder underneath the pump.  The cord wraps around this holder so that it is completely out of the way when not in use.

Trust NIXY to think of all of these little details to make their product more comfortable and manageable in all situations.

INFLATE & DEFLATE

This pump can both inflate your paddle board as well as deflate it.

I really like using the deflate option as it makes it really easy to get the board flat and roll it back up before packing it away in the backpack.

SPEED

This electric pump has 2 pumping speed stages which are 350L/min at 1st stage and 70L/min at 2nd stage.

So just how fast is that?  To give you an idea here are the speeds that I got when inflating the NIXY G4 paddle boards:

• NIXY Huntington G4 9’6″x32’x6″: 8 minutes and 33 seconds
• NIXY Venice G4 10’6″x34″x6″: 9 minutes and 38 seconds
• NIXY Newport G4 10’6″x32″x6″:  9 minutes 18 seconds
• NIXY Manhattan G4 12’6″x28″x6″:  8 minutes, 52 seconds
• NIXY Huntington G3 9’6″x32″x6″: 8 minutes and 36 seconds

I have tried other electric pumps that are slightly faster but not by much.  Inflating all of these boards took awhile but if you are just inflating two or three it’s not a big deal.

Plus it’s nice to sit back and relax or get everything else ready for the water while the pump does the work.

ELECTRIC PUMP WITH STANDING LEGS

The pump itself has a well thought out design.  The little legs on the Ventus pump are handy because they keep the body of the pump off the ground so that it doesn’t get wet dirt or sand in it.

Also the air intake is also placed above the cord manager so no sand or debris gets sucked up.

DURABLE PADDED CARRY BAG

The bag includes a small front zippered pocket, an internal pouch that can hold the optional battery pack and a zippered mesh pouch to hold all of the attachments and hose.  It also has a shoulder strap and a top padded carry handle.

I love the zippered mesh pocket inside as it’s so nice to have the attachments and hose safely tucked away so nothing gets lost.

10 foot 12V Cigarette Lighter Plug-In

This 10′ cord wraps underneath the pump and is tucked away when not in use.

12V BATTERY ALLIGATOR CLIPS

As mentioned the 12V battery alligator clips allow you to connect the pump to a car battery if you choose to.

4′ FLEXIBLE NON-KINKING AIR HOSE

The durable hose easily secures to the side of the pump and fits all included attachments.

7 NOZZLE ATTACHMENTS

Included are 7 different nozzle attachments and three little rubber gaskets so this pump can be used with most inflatable SUP brands and other inflatable products like inflatable kayaks or dinghies.

The H3 valve nozzle is the one you will want to use for most inflatable paddle boards.

Depending on your board you may need to change the little white rubber gasket (there are three included in the package) to make sure you get a secure fit with the valve on your board.

I also tried using this pump with one of my inflatable kayaks as well and it worked great.
